Malfozaat are the informal conversations of a Shaikh that were recorded by his mureeds.  The malfozaat that we have under review is “Fawa’id-ul-Fu’ad” (MORALS FOR THE HEART), which are the conversations of Shaikh Nizamuddin Awliya (Radi Allahu Anhu), as recorded by his mureed, Khwaja Amir Hasan ‘Ala Sijzi (Radi Allahu Anhu), over a period of fifteen years.  For the mureeds of the Chistiya Silsila for whom this malfozaat is primarily intended, embodies a model to be emulated.  This work has come to be recognized as a beacon of guidance.  “Fawa’id-ul-Fu’ad” became the basic text of the Chistiya Mystical Ideaology, so much so that throughout the Indo-Pak subcontinent, the Chistiya centers were organized on the basis of the spiritual and moral principles as found in this text.  Hazrat Khwaja Hasan Sijzi (Radi Allahu Anhu), impressed by the effect of the discourses of Khwaja Nizamuddin Awliya (Radi Allahu Anhu), decided to record his utterances.  He secretly went on his plan recording these discourses, until he could not resist but inform his murshid of his undertaking.  Khwaja Nizamuddin Awliya (Radi Allahu Anhu) asked to see as to what had been recorded, and glanced through the pages.  The shaikh had revised some of these pages.  Thereafter, after every discourse, Khwaja Nizamuddin Awliya (Radi Allahu Anhu) used to check and revise what had been recorded by Khwaja Amir Hassan (Radi Allahu Anhu).  No other work was seen or approved by the Shaikh himself.

The greatness of this work is such, that Hazrat Khwaja Amir Khusrau (Radi Allahu Anhu) had offered Hazrat Khwaja Amir Hasan Sijzi (Radi Allahu Anhu) the authorship of all his works, in exchange for the authorship of “Fawa’id-ul-Fu’ad.”

Introduction to "Fawa'id ul-Fu'ad" by Hazrat Khwaja Amir Hassan 'Ala Sijzi (Radi Allahu Anhu)

In the name of the Allah, the Compassionate, the most Merciful.

           These essences of the Unseen, which adorn the One beyond doubt, derive from that treasure house of affirmation, that storage bin of certitude, the upright master, he whose name (i.e., Muhammad) is linked to the Qur’anic dictum:  “We have not sent you except as a mercy to the universe” (Q.21:107), he who is the king of the poor and worthy, Shaykh Nizam of Truth, of Law, of Guidance, of Faith – may Allah provide for the Muslims through the lengthening of his life.  Ameen.

           Having collected everything which I heard from that candle of the angelic assembly, I have written down the distillation of his blessed discourse and what it means – at least to the extent that I understood it.  Since the heart of the spiritually aroused will benefit from it, I have named this work Morals for the Heart (Fawa’id al-Fu’ad).  Allah alone is our helper, on Him do we rely.
