SIRAJ-UL-AWLIYA
HAZRAT KHWAJA
MAMSHAAD ULOOWE DINWARI
(RADI ALLAHU ANHU)Hazrat
Khwaja Mamshaad Uloowe Dinwari (Radi Allahu Anhu) was one of the
leading Awliya (Friends of Allah) of his time. Many of the
other Masha'ikh of his era looked towards him for physical and
spiritual guidance. Like all other Awliya, he spent his
entire life performing strenuous Mujaheda (Spiritual Strivings)
and Riyazat. Hazrat Khwaja Mamshaad Uloowe Dinwari fasted
during his entire life.
BIRTH - It is recorded
in "Sirr-al-Awliya" that Hazrat Khwaja Mamshaad Uloowe Dinwari (Radi
Allahu Anhu) was born in the evening but did not consume his
mother's milk. When morning dawned, he drank a bit of his
mother's milk, and then had nothing the entire day, until the
evening. He was bestowed with Wilaayat (Sainthood) whilst
still in his mother's womb.
BAI'AT AND KHILAFAT -
Hazrat Khwaja Mamshaad Uloowe Dinwari (Radi Allahu Anhu) became
the mureed (disciple) of Hazrat Khwaja Bu Hubaira Basri (Radi
Allahu Anhu), and served his master dutifully, until he was
bestowed with Khilaafat by his Murshid.
LIFE - Hazrat Khwaja
Mamshaad Uloowe Dinwari (RA) always kept the doors of his
khanqah closed, and people were not allowed to enter. When
someone knocked on the door, he used to ask, "Are you a
traveller or are you here to stay?" If a person answered
that he was a traveller, he was allowed to enter, and for as
long as he stayed in the Khanqah, Hazrat Khwaja Mamshaad (Radi
Allahu Anhu) took the best care of him. If a person
answered that he was there to stay, he would humbly request them
to leave, saying that their stay in the khanqah would cause
distractions to his heart, and if they ever decided to leave, he
would find it difficult to bear the seperation.
Once, someone requested Hazrat
Khwaja Mamshaad Uloowe Dinwari (Radi Allahu Anhu) to make dua
for him, upon which the Great Khwaja said to him, "Reach the
divine proximity to Allah. There you would find no need
for my dua." The man then said to Hazrat Khwaja Mamshaad (Radi
Allahu Anhu) that he had no knowledge of attaining Allah's
nearness. Hazrat Khwaja Mamshaad (Radi Allahu Anhu) then
said to him that one will only find proximity to Allah when he
forgets his own existence. This person immediately went
into seclusion, and engrossed himself in the remembrance of
Allah, and attained a very high spiritual station.

The following are some of the sayings
of Hazrat Khwaja Mamshaad Uloowe Dinwari (Radi Allahu Anhu):
|
|
|
|
1. |
For
a mureed, it is compulsory to serve his Murshid dutifully, and
behave well with his brothers of the path. |
|
2. |
If
a person goes to meet a pious servant of Allah whilst having
pride and thinking great of himself, then his meeting with the
pious servants of Allah is a waste of time and will not have
any effect on his heart. |
|
3. |
There are many forms of idol worship. Many have become
worshippers of their carnal desires, wives and children.
Some have become worshippers of namaaz and fasting. Only
when one brings his desires under control, then he becomes a
worshipper of Allah. |
SAMA - Hazrat Khwaja
Mamshaad Dinwari (Radi Allahu Anhu) once dreamt of the Holy Prophet
(Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam), and in his dream he asked, "YA
RASOOLALLAH (Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam), do you reject the practice
of sama?" The Holy Prophet (Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam)
replied, "No, I am not against it's practice, but one should
commence and end the mehfil-e-sama with some recitation of the Holy
Qur'an."
Hazrat Khwaja Mamshaad (Radi Allahu Anhu) used to celebrate the Urs
of his Murshid, Hazrat Khwaja Aminuddin Bu Hubaira Basri (Radi
Allahu Anhu), and on that day, he always listened to sama. The
people questioned his as to what the secret was of his listening to
sama on the day of the Urs. Hazrat Khwaja Mamshaad (Radi
Allahu Anhu) replied, "Our Masha'ikh listened to sama, and today is
the day of Urs. Today is the day of my Murshid's meeting with
his Beloved (Allah). Death is a bridge that unites the lover
with the beloved. In rejoicement of my Murshid's meeting, I
listen to sama, and just as he has become united with his Loved One,
there is a possibility that with my Murshid's blessings, and through
listening to sama on this joyous occasion, I may get a glimpse of
that beloved."
DEMISE - Before Hazrat
Khwaja Mamshaad Dinwari (Radi Allahu Anhu) passed away, lots of
people came to his home to enquire about his condition. When
his health began to deteriorate even further, some people requested
the Khwaja (Radi Allahu Anhu) to recite the Kalimah (Declaration of
Faith). Hearing this request from the people, Hazrat Khwaja
Mamshaad (Radi Allahu Anhu) turned his face away from them towards
the wall, and said, "From head to foot, I have become extinct in
you. Is this the treatment that those who become Your Friends
get? For three years heaven was presented in front of me, yet
I never looked towards it, and during that period, I drowned my
heart in your remembrance. It is the desire of the Siddiqeen
(Truthful Ones) to drown one's self in Your Love and Remembrance."
Saying these words, Hazrat Khwaja Mamshaad Uloowe Dinwari (Radi
Allahu Anhu) passed away. He bestowed khilafat upon his
belowed mureed, Hazrat Khwaja Abu Is`haaq Chisti Shaami (Radi Allahu
Anhu).
